Anita Komorski

Founding Member, Instructor, Director

As administrator of the academy, Anita still finds time to teach beginners and intermediate students on piano, organ and keyboards.  She specializes in the beginner student and always enjoys getting a student off on the right foot!  Using various proven methods, she instills basic music skills with confidence.  Students can look forward to learning music they know, and can enjoy playing right from the beginning.  Anita has been working with students since 1978 and still enjoys the thrill of a beginner when they play their first song!

She also handles the day to day business and administration of the academy.  You will generally talk to her when you sign up for lessons, or if you have any questions or problems.  She assigns students to the various faculty members according to openings on each teachers schedule and tries to match the students schedule with the teacher.  Anita handles all aspects of the business with great attention to detail and feels the students' education is of the highest priority.  Feel free to contact her with any and all questions regarding the academy.

Faculty

Don Komorski

Founding Member, Jazz Instructor, Expert Piano Technician

Known professionally as Don Komar, Don has performed all around the Chicago area for the past 60 years.  His talents as a jazz musician are widely known and admired.  He accepts students at the advanced level on piano, organ, keyboard, and accordion. He teaches students the basics of jazz and improvisation using methods from several area universities along with some of his own styling tips.  Students can look forward to fun and challenging lessons as they learn "ear" skills, and improvisation techniques.  He also is available for 4 week Jazz master classes for area music educators.  We encourage the music teacher to improve their skills and regain new enthusiasm for teaching jazz to their students.

As treasurer of the Master Piano Technicians of America, Don also provides expert piano tuning and reconditioning to our students and other customers around the Chicagoland area.  He tunes over 700 pianos per year, as well as handles any piano repairs.   He received his Doctorate in Piano Technology from the Master Piano Technician Institute in 2008, and has been tuning professionally for over 25 years.  You can count on him to maintain your instrument so you can enjoy it for years to come.

Tom Hultsch

Guitar Instructor

Tom has been playing guitar since he was thirteen.  He began teaching guitar at seventeen.  He comes from a musical family with parents that also played and taught musical instruments.  As a musically well educated performer, Tom teaches all forms of notation as well as the rudiments of the guitar.  He believes you need to learn the basics to be able to play any type of music, so those fundamentals are a prerequisite for playing current material.  He is up to date on current material and genres and will teach them as his students' progress.  Teaching the basics of music theory while using a student's favorite song, helps students see how those fundamentals relate to music.  He also has an extensive sound engineering background, and has produced, mixed, and engineered songs for his band, Gypsyfly.  His albums have met with approval and have been played on major radio stations.  For more information on his band, visit the Gypsyfly website.

Alexander Purim

Piano Instructor

ALEXANDER PURIM, a veteran piano teacher and concert piano performer from the Ukraine, began his musical education at 6 years old.  After graduating with a BA in Music Education from Simpheropol's State College in 1966, he joined the Donetsk State Music Conservatory and received his Masters Degree in Performance and Music Education, with honors, in 1971.  From 1971 to 1986, Mr. Purim was a faculty member at the Khmelnitcky State College of Music in Ukraine. He was the Dean of the 20 member faculty, and taught advanced piano and theory courses.  During this time, Mr. Purim performed advanced classical music as a soloist with the Khmelnitcky State Philharmonic, as well as being the Dean of the Examination Committee for State Competitions.

Since immigrating to the United States in 1986, Mr. Purim continued his career as a private teacher and a Classical Music Soloist.  His repertoire spans complex works of Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, and many others.

Alexander's vast experience allows him to teach beginners, as well as advanced students in classical studies, which made him a welcome addition to the faculty of A & A Music Academy in 1988.  As a successful teacher, Mr. Purim's students participate in numerous piano competitions and have received awards and scholarships. Several of his students have been accepted into prestigious colleges, such are Julliard School of Music, DePaul, Yale University, and other Ivy League schools.  Frequent student performances show his dedication to the excellence of teaching and music education.

Regina Purim

Piano Instructor

REGINA PURIM is a 40 year veteran pianist and teacher from the Ukraine.  She came to A & A Music Academy in 1988, and has been a wonderful addition to the faculty. Beginning her study of the piano at 6 years old, Regina graduated in 1966 with a BA of Music from Lvov's College of Music, and continued on to receive her masters in 1971 from Donetsk State Conservatory.  Post graduation, she became a faculty member at Khmelnitsky State College of Music, Ukraine, teaching advanced piano and theory courses for 15 years.  Regina's accomplishments and rewards were having her students accepted into prestigious music conservatories as well as being trusted by her peers in the musical education of their children.

Regina has received several endorsements from her students and there parents. The following is a quote from one of the letters that came to the Academy: "We wanted you to know what excellent teachers Regina and Alex have been for Bradley and Eric. We feel quite fortunate that they were able to work with the boys…"  Mrs. Purim's students continue to participate in a variety of piano competitions, where many have received awards and ratings of "Excellence".

Besides teaching, Mrs. Purim enjoys playing piano for her students and faculty.  She especially enjoys performing duets with her husband Alexander, where he sings and she accompanies him on piano.
